Hello, again. Just thought I would amend a bit to the Dell Saga, seeing as people had been asking me about it. I will answer your questions right here and right now.
-It was one month exactly from the time I called them about my problem until they got someone out to fix my computer. One whole month when they promised me - at the most - three days. I'm not exaggerating like some people have assumed. I mean that I called them on the 13th of December and on the 13th of January somebody arrived to fix my computer.
-No, Dell has not replaced my computer yet. I'm still using my original Dell Studio Laptop. It has been TWENTY days since they promised me a new one. Keep in mind, kids: A complete refund for almost $1,300 would have only taken 30 days. They assured me that settling for an $800 brand new laptop would be the speedier option. Uhhh...?
-Yes, the Dell technician actually did break my computer and then leave. Well, to be more accurate, he replaced my heat sink took a 20 minute long shit in my bathroom, broke my computer, and then left. What took him two hours to "repair" and then leave broken on my kitchen table took me EIGHT HOURS to get back to functional.
-Yes, I got my computer to be functional. No, I do not consider it to be fixed. My registry is some sort of terrible junk heap of fragmented and duplicate files. Yes, I probably could fix it, but that is not the point. Computer manufacturers, as well as Microsoft themselves, tell you not to mess with your registry. Besides, there was no reason I should have had to fix it to begin with. Right now, my computer thinks it has fifteen USB ports, it doesn't play sound files unless they're built into the program (IE: World of Warcraft, Digsby, Windows itself), or on the internet (Flash videos, streaming videos, quicklime bits.) It does not play sound in Quicktime, Winamp, iTunes, or Windows Media Player. When I troubleshoot in WMP, it tells me that it has no idea what is going on. Good times, good times.
-Yes, I actually was getting burn marks on my legs from my laptop before they fixed the heat sink. Unfortunately, this isn't uncommon for most laptops. I'm not really faulting Dell for it. My laptop does actually run quite a bit cooler now that they replaced the heat sink, though.
-Dell told me that my case wasn't going to be handed over to anyone overseas due to the problems I had with getting good service. Unfortunately, the minute after Lisa and Valarie told me they'd replace my laptop with something similar, they tossed my case directly to Dell's Over Seas Tech Support (DOTS) and I haven't heard from them in about a week. I honestly have no clue what is going on.
So that is where we are currently standing. Dell doesn't talk to me, and I'm sure that they're going to try to keep me jerked around as long as possible. Fantastic. Thanks, Dell.
